Engine alone, usually around $1,000-$1,200 difference.

Are compression and cams worth that? Maybe so

But like the OP I'd be interested to hear all the differences in detail. Just guessing, you'd think that the GT engine would be built to take more punishment. Stand up to being beat on a little better.

I could've got one real cheap . they took the truck across the scales...got 400 for the whole truck and this was the second one . So I was just wondering if it's worth getting one...

97-2001 Explorer 5.0 W/P heads. You might need different headers.

American Auto Salvage just got a 14 model truck engine in with 71k for $2000. They have a lot of flood stuff but this one was actually hit in the front. The cheapest Mustang engines I can find are $3400+ and all out of state.

I had a work truck with a 5.0 and that bitch would rip ass for a truck. It lost a lot when I put bigger tires on it. The numbers above only show performance at 4250 rpm. My biggest complaint was the delay in the throttle when I floored it. I wouldn’t be scared of the truck motor if I got a good deal on it. You can likely make it haul the mail with correct gearing and a good tune in a light car.
