  • Power steering question

I have my current build on a run stand waiting to be test fired and broken in. I have all front dress and accessories mounted including the power steering pump. I know the P/S pump will build pressure so I thought about filling it with fluid and looping a hose from the pressure side to the return side of the pump just to circulate fluid and keep it from damaging the pump.

So with that being said, does anyone see an issue with this? Can I do this?

    TIA

Worst case you're out $75-100? Send it.

If you are running the A/C compressor you could run a short belt and bypass the P/S.

              306. All forged internals. X cam, Edelbrock RPM heads, Air Gap intake, and 670cfm Holley. Nothing fancy.

make sure you use ATF in the steering pump.

that's per ford. They dont use power steering fluid. it's the reason you hear the old pumps that style making noise.

I've had quieter power steering pumps when running synthetic Mercon V in them. For my '92 F-150 I swapped to a Saginaw pump from a later model van. Dead quiet & the power steering feels like a Cadillac.

Ok, next question. Will I damage the alternator if I use it solely for the pulley?
