And to rev up those conspiracy theory engines, let's just review how freakin' weird Justice Scalia's death was.

His days were known as predictable, but in the hours after his body was found, chaos reigned. Texas officials needed hours to find a justice of the peace to pronounce him dead.

It then took hours for authorities in remote West Texas to find a justice of the peace, officials said Sunday. When they did, Presidio County Judge Cinderela Guevara pronounced Scalia dead of natural causes without seeing the body — which is permissible under Texas law — and without ordering an autopsy.
    --
Meanwhile, Guevara acknowledged that she pronounced Scalia dead by phone, without seeing his body. Instead, she spoke to law enforcement officials at the scene — who assured her “there were no signs of foul play” — and Scalia’s physician in Washington, who said that the 79-year-old justice suffered from a host of chronic conditions.

“He was having health issues,’’ Guevara said, adding that she is awaiting a statement from Scalia’s doctor that will be added to his death certificate when it is issued later this week.

Guevara also rebutted a report by a Dallas TV station that quoted her as saying that Scalia had died of “myocardial infarction.” In an interview with The Washington Post, she said she meant only that his heart had stopped.

“It wasn’t a heart attack,” Guevara said. “He died of natural causes.”
Without performing an autopsy, or having visually inspected his body, she knew what he died from. A US Supreme Court Justice. In the final year of an outgoing president's term.

I've been convinced from the beginning that he was murdered. Hell, I probably could have snuck in there by water, killed him, then left w/o no one even knowing. I hope a witness comes forward at some point.

Of course he was. I never had any doubt. Everything surrounding his death was suspicious, especially the timing.

[Schumer] demanded that the Senate's top Republican, Mitch McConnell of Kentucky, abide by the so-called Biden Rule when deciding to commence proceedings to confirm a Supreme Court pick.

In 1992, then-Sen. Joe Biden (D-Del.) gave a speech calling for Congress to delay any prospective Supreme Court pick until after then-President George Bush's ultimately unsuccessful reelection bid.
Eat shit, Schumer. That was a presidential election year, not a midterm.

Are all the crying rooms booked up? or are they even smart enough to know what does it means to lose the SCOTUS for the next 20+ years?

Was talking to one of the guys I work with today and he said he went on a retreat with a local rich dude he used to work for. He said various people showed up from all over the country. One of those people was Clarence Thomas and he showed up driving his own RV just like a regular Joe Blow. Point being, the idea that Scalia's death was murder seems a little outlandish at first but these guys don't go around with a secret service escort or anything like that so it is just as feasible as the murder of anyone.

As important as these are to our country, they should get the same security as the president.

Kenenedy's already getting death threats from the left for stepping down.

                  Security might be implemented soon.

And McConnell was well within his right to do so. That whole separation of powers and checks and balances thing in the constitution works pretty well.

Heads up. If you needed a reason to just vote straight ticket against Democrats, here you go.

They are openly advocating 'packing the court' with liberal justices the next time they get a chance to, so that their agenda items get the SC stamp of approval - forever.

...none of these ideas ― much less what remains of the legacy left by former President Barack Obama ― will survive a Trump-friendly Supreme Court. Roe v. Wade is gone. Democrats have no choice but to implement structural reforms to the judiciary if they hope to prevent decades of rule by the alt-right in America. At a minimum, that will mean expanding the Supreme Court bench to 11 justices under the next Democratic president. Other reforms, including term limits to remove aging conservatives, may well be appropriate...

The choice between court-packing (in 2021) and international fascism should not be difficult. Democrats can’t get their ends ― a decent society of mutual respect and shared prosperity ― by ignoring the means of power. Playing nice with fascist enablers in Washington will not stop fascism.
Do they ever think things through? If it's such a great idea, let's see what would happen if Republicans were to take this advice today. Pass legislation to force SC justice retirement at 70 years of age, which immediately removes Breyer, Ginsburg, and Thomas. Then set the number of justices to 11 and fill it with Abbott, Gowdy, Cruz - and to really stir the hornet's nest, let's add Rush Limbaugh and Ben Shapiro.

When the government pays, the government controls.

                              dated two years ago today

The Supreme Court’s Conservative Run Is Over

But now, with Justice Scalia’s seat vacant and Hillary Clinton the favorite to win the presidency, the movement to shift constitutional doctrine further to the right may be running out of time. If Clinton is elected and successfully appoints a successor to Justice Scalia, 6 of the 9 justices will be firm obstacles to the elimination of abortion and affirmative action. And even if the Senate continues to refuse to act on a new appointment, 5 of 8 will be, with no short-term prospect of a conservative nominee.

When the government pays, the government controls.
