Alcohol has been legal since 1933 and the government taxes the hell out of it. It's still not enough to fund everything people expect government to do; the same can be said for tobacco and marijuana won't be any different. Sales taxes are also a regressive tax that is stifling on the economy and economic growth. If they do go to a pure sales tax method of funding the Texas state government how long do you think it will take for that rate to hit 25 or 30%?
Magnus, I am your father. You need to ask your mother about a man named Calvin Klein.

I love regressive taxes. I'm tired of shitbags at the bottom not paying anything while they act like rich people, who float the whole fucking boat, don't pay anything.

They could, but it goes into politicians special interests. Prime example, look at PA and gambling. They are so fucking in the hole and they tax everything at the highest level (gas tax, state income, city, county, property, sales) IN ADDITION to the casinos revenue. They still can't fix roads or have any decent govmt services. Worst fucking roads in America. It's all a cash cow to whatever lobby, pensions, oh and unions.

I should also add that I'm absolutely for cutting spending, getting rid of special programs, and lining the pockets of politicians. Just like at my house, if we can't afford it, we don't fucking buy it!

While I hate it, I’d rather pay property tax than state income tax. And you know they won’t give up one with the other, despite what revolution Gasser64 thinks is happening.

Everyone needs to look up the Texas laws in regards to any "income tax". Ain't happening.

Guys... We get them to axe the ISD's. This kind of thing has been done before. You move over to the private school model. Problem fucking solved. The money is nearly all going to the schools like Ceyko mentioned, or some piece of shit's pocket somewhere. Or he's squirreling it away for something, somehow, because ain't nothing new being built there. Fuck all that.

IF you destroyed the public school system and the parents paid to send their kids to the school of their choice, well now you don't need nearly as much money, do you? You don't need sky fucking high property tax. Start a god-damn "highway tax" if there's something left that isn't getting paid for. We all know it would be 5 or 10% of what we're paying for now in the form of these ridiculous freedom robbing property taxes.

This can be done. Even if you have to do it over the course of 5 years, it could be done.

You went to school for free, it is a pay it forward type of thing. The problem is, these people think their little darlings need a baby white house to learn with a billion dollar stadium to play football in. Waxahachie got a huge bond passed, built a huge school, and as it turns out they are out of room already with the new school. They decided indoor sports facilities were more important then classrooms. Right after that passed they came back for a natatorium and everyone said no! Now they are trying to pass something to renovate some of their old buildings that just were not good enough for the children then but with just 22 million they can make them passable again or some crazy amount.

You already pay a highway tax at the pump and when you purchase your registration sticker.

True, but that "pay it forward" model is flawed on it's best day. Nothing lasts forever, so at some point it's all going to change. At that time, those who would be coming up to pay it forward, are exempted. Cause shit just ain't gonna be that way anymore.

Same would happen if we move it over to private. All that about money being wasted wouldn't be possible if we go to all private schools. Cause now they've gotta compete, and now they've gotta be fiscally responsible or maybe next year they don't have a job. I'm certain much of the problem is public servants wanting to live above their value/worth and trying to "get theirs". Go earn it fatty. The rest is like you said, mismanagement.

I'm sure if you closed the public school system over time, the need for all that property tax would evaporate. Now that money is being redirected by the parents to the school of their choice. There's 2 empty school buildings in my town. Those are two buildings that could be sold and become private schools. They've built newer ones to replace them, so let those old ones be for the "low income" people. Give their parents some incentive to do better and send their kids to a better school. Not like the public school system is any remedy for that situation. You see what those pieces of shit are indoctrinating the kids with.

The Park Cities tried to do this in the 80s when they were fighting the Robin Hood taxation scheme for school funding. Unfortunately a public school system is a requirement under the Texas Constitution and they were blocked by the courts from forming a private school system even though it would have free tuition.

Seeing as how Gasser has all the answers, I'm expecting we'll see his campaign announcement any day now...

He’s so smart he posts shit in the wrong forum. He sounds like an ideal candidate to be a career politician.

I don't have to have all the answers, the point is that there is an answer somewhere. Even it it takes some doing. I'm all for just forcing it on them and letting the chips fall where they may. They'll figure it out. Hypothetically say they hounded the politicians until they were finally forced to eliminate the property tax. They'd come up with something, if there were some great need with no work around. I have faith. The sky wouldn't fall and crush you to death.

That doesn't necessarily mean it would go down that way every subsequent time it was tried. Do what the rest of the government does - Go around the constitution. Yes we do still have a token public school system. It does exist, technically. Which translates to barely. It's a mere shadow of its former self.
