  • Looking for a shotgun with the least recoil...

With this years dove season coming up, my daughter (11) mentioned that she wants to shoot a shotgun. My plan is to introduce her to shooting a still target(s) later in the season just to get over that initial shock, then slowly work into trap.

My question, being that she's never shot a shotgun, I'm thinking of buying a .410 but I'm looking for something with the least kick. A buddy of mine has an old one that she can shoot but from what he describes, it kicks like a mule for a .410. I have a Remington 20 ga. (I don't think it's a youth model) so I'm concerned she won't be able to carry it but I may try the lightest loads and see how it goes. I may have her try to carry it this weekend to get a better idea of fit.

Honestly, I'm thinking once she shoots one, that she'll lose interest till she gets over that first-time jitter so I'm trying to find something that'll lessen that possibility.

    Thoughts?

Get a 20ga semi auto for her. You can always swap the stocks for length of pull.
Fuck you. We're going to Costco.

Started on a mossy 12 500 when I was 10. Couldn't even hold the thing up. Matter of fact, I pulled it out last night and took it apart and deep cleaned it. Memories.

Mossberg SA-20 Bantam. It should be around $450-$500.

I would go with a 20g auto. I bought my 13 year old girl a Rossi youth single .410, i swear it kicks harder than my Browning a5 12g. She still shoots it, but doesnt really enjoy it. I think im gonna get her one this fall.

Yikes. I haven't priced shotguns in a good minute but that seems like a lot of coin for a Mossberg. Have they gone up in quality or just price?

Get a gas operated 20 . Plus the ammo in .410 and 28ga is high as hell .

I just can't get over the Mossberg "switch" safety.

                          The SA-20 has a cross-bolt safety, like a Remington.
