Well I guess remote splitters and D/A converters are cheap these days.
If you have a decent home theater setup, that's all you need. Run all your sources to your receiver and run HDMI from there to your TV for video. It's just a monitor at that point. You won't need the audio output at all.

Anyway, I'm looking for a good deal on a 50“. Doesn't need any fancy features. Christmas gift for the in-laws for their bedroom.

Newegg said should only be another week or so before I get my money back. Yeah, great customer service.

But the Sharp from Best Buy seems to kick ass. For $400 its not a bad TV. 3-HDMI, optical audio out and the backlit LED/LCD looks pretty nice. Not 4k nice, but not bad at all.
Good judgment comes from bad decisions and a lot of that comes from bad judgment.

Should have bought the Emerson 50" from Wally world on Black Friday. I think it was like $218. We bought the 32" version for the farm house for $98. I don't have any complaints for it's intended use. We just use OTA up there, and I was surprised with the picture for the money.

Funny, the company I work for buys hundreds of LEDs a month online and very rarely have any issues.

Looking for something better than Emerson. No way I would have dealt with Walmart (or any other place) on Black Friday this year. Plus, didn't know they would need one. Theirs just quit working. That's cheap as hell, though!

I'd have preferred a better brand as well, but as little as it gets used, it's not a big deal. It doesn't have any smart tv functionality, but it isn't needed as we can't get anything other than dial up or satellite internet up there anyhow. We replaced an old 27" tube tv, so it's a massive improvement even if it is an Emerson.

Ya, that makes sense. They watch theirs several hours a day. They hardly ever watch TV in their living room. Interestingly enough, it's a Samsung 46“ LCD that has crapped out on them. It works, but only after 5-10 minutes of loud, fuzzy screen and flipping it on and off to get it working. Samsung came out and replaced some stuff for free, didn't help, then replaced some parts at about $100 cost, still didn't work, so they declared it unrepairable. It's about 7 years old. It will make a decent garage TV.

Picked up a Sharp 50“ for $400 at Best Buy. Good enough.
