Yes, plenty of us are FFDO's. Its funny how times change............in the not so distant past, we were required to be armed if we were transporting US Mail.
Just curious, how long is the training?

Long enough to get one of these.

The few times I've flown with a pistol, both AA and Southwest, the gate agents seemed to be practiced and relaxed with the whole process. The first time in and out of both San Diego and Sacramento ,I went ahead and locked the slides back, and threw gun locks through the action, just the be sure to put everyone at ease. Not an option with a revolver, and being that it was smooth sailing, I haven't felt the need as of late.

I would definitely factor in a little extra time at the gate, just in case you get some numbnuts that freaks out and has to call a supervisor.
