    AOC AND THE BLIND GENERATION

This article was written by a 26 yr old college student by the name of Alyssa Ahlgren, who's in grad school for her MBA.

My Generation Is Blind to the Prosperity Around Us!

I'm sitting in a small coffee shop near Nokomis (Florida) trying to think of what to write about. I scroll through my newsfeed on my phone looking at the latest headlines of presidential candidates calling for policies to "fix" the so-called injustices of capitalism. I put my phone down and continue to look around.

I see people talking freely, working on their MacBook's, ordering food they get in an instant, seeing cars go by outside, and it dawned on me. We live in the most privileged time in the most prosperous nation and we've become completely blind to it.

Vehicles, food, technology, freedom to associate with whom we choose. These things are so ingrained in our American way of life we don't give them a second thought.

We are so well off here in the United States that our poverty line begins 31 times above the global average. Thirty One Times!!!

Virtually no one in the United States is considered poor by global standards. Yet, in a time where we can order a product off Amazon with one click and have it at our doorstep the next day, we are unappreciative, unsatisfied, and ungrateful. ??

Our unappreciation is evident as the popularity of socialist policies among my generation continues to grow. Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez recently said to Newsweek talking about the millennial generation, "An entire generation, which is now becoming one of the largest electorates in America, came of age and never saw American prosperity."

Never saw American prosperity! Let that sink in.

When I first read that statement, I thought to myself, that was quite literally the most entitled and factually illiterate thing I've ever heard in my 26 years on this earth. Many young people agree with her, which is entirely misguided.

My generation is being indoctrinated by a mainstream narrative to actually believe we have never seen prosperity. I know this first hand, I went to college, let's just say I didn't have the popular opinion, but I digress.

Why then, with all of the overwhelming evidence around us, evidence that I can even see sitting at a coffee shop, do we not view this as prosperity? We have people who are dying to get into our country.

People around the world destitute and truly impoverished. Yet, we have a young generation convinced they've never seen prosperity, and as a result, we elect some politicians who are dead set on taking steps towards abolishing capitalism.

Why? The answer is this,?? my generation has only seen prosperity. We have no contrast. We didn't live in the great depression, or live through two world wars, the Korean War, The Vietnam War or we didn't see the rise and fall of socialism and communism.

We don't know what it's like to live without the internet, without cars, without smartphones. We don't have a lack of prosperity problem. We have an entitlement problem, an ungratefulness problem, and it's spreading like a plague."

I have been telling people that these are "the good ole days" but the propaganda has led us to believe otherwise. Seems people have forgotten near 10% unemployment, even bigger underemployment, no internet and a whole other host of "problems"

People have very short memories. VERY short.

I was having this conversation the other day, with a younger couple related to my wife. She was complaining that they cant live like their parents did.

I brought it back to reality, her mom basically walked away almost in tears. Want to like like your parents in 90's (not even the 70's or 80's, she's in her twenties)? No cell phones. One car, not a new one with a payment, something that you saved up and bought with cash money. No internet. Cook at home, dont go out every night. One tv. No computers. Then you can afford to live like they did.

Yep...we cant even imagine a world without climate control for 97% of our waking lives now. Modern problems are the ability to afford a $5K vacation, annual wardrobe updates and that $40K+ car.

I do truly blame a lot of this on the media and marketing. Without someone constantly screaming at how much people have been "wronged"...everyone would generally be happy.

The only thing I'll agree on is the ridiculous growth in college prices and increased difficulty in obtaining real estate at an earlier age. But it's still not bad if you makea reasonable choice for your major or go with a trade instead.

Yeah my dad had an 18% mortgage and worked 60+ hours a week to pay it along with keeping all us asshole kids fed. His dad worked on a ranch his entire life from sun up to sun down. Life has gotten much easier for every generation of my family.

I had electricity, refrigeration and a TV. My dad grew up in a dugout in New Mexico. Literally a shack with a dirt floor.

90% of this movement of whiners/emotional hemophiliacs is made up of age 20-50 white women who have no clue about a fucking thing. If you think I am wrong just go look at some of the stupid shit this particular demographic says on Facebook. They whine more about racism than the actual victims of racism. Most of them will gladly give up every right in the bill of rights just for some new law. As a group they are really fucking stupid.

A lot of it is the result of rejection, laziness, anger and just plain i give up on life so take care of me. And a little bit of no one has ever told them no growing up.

My dad also grew up in a very very small house in Amarillo under similar conditions. They had hardships that i dont have, but they had plenty of blessings.

                              Pros were things like:
Your dad (and mine) also saw unprecidented wage and GDP growth along with that high mortgage.
It wasnt uncommon to see double digit raises YOY that got ahead of the high inflation of the time.
It wasnt uncommon for managers and executives to have multiple secretaries employed . Now you will usually see one Admin assistant taking on a pool of executives or an entire office because everything has been automated/
Lots of jobs for things that are now automated with gained efficiencies over time. Even white collar jobs like engineers at defense contractors that used to be done by the hordes are now leaned out.
Good pensions/profit sharing. My dad's deals were incredible.

                              Cons were things like
My parents also paid something obscene like 25 cents/min for a long distance call too. Strange to even think about now.
Paying for the internet by the minute
Expensive and invasive surgeries and recovery times
Shitty intangible benefits, no work from home or 2 weeks paid vacation a year if you were lucky.

The modern world has gotten very very good at siphoning off more of your earnings with ever more sophisticated approaches from every single angle, from insurance, to educational costs, to childcare.

I'm not saying we dont have it good, but what we have right now with this era of peak consumerism is not sustainable.
