  • Ignition/handlebar lock non responsive

I go to get on my bike this morning, unchain it from my truck and whatnot to ride it to work.....and when I stick the key in the ignition, it seems like its....off center? If that makes sense. Wiggled the handlebars a bit, and that seemed to fix it. However, the key won't turn the lock, at all. Couldn't unlock the bars. Therefore, I had to take my truck to work. Damn it.

Anyone ever seen anything like that before? I'm going to call the dealership after they open, just thought I'd ask the brain trust first.

You think someone may have fucked with it?

Someone could have tried to jack it, my v-star would never lock for some reason.

I don't think so. Probably a tumbler froze overnight or something. I didn't have a lot of time to mess with it before I had to get to work.

Wd-40 down the lock cylinder has solved more than a few problems for me. Especially if bike sits out in the rain

With the key in the ignition, give it a couple taps with hammer on top of the key. Also lubricate lock cylinder as said above.

A dab of d40 and it's good to go!! Had me a little worried for a bit there, because I've never had that problem before, with my bikes always sitting outside over the last ten or so years.

The zx10r is in my living room right now though. Thanks guys

Truth.. I had some padlocks that were getting tough to open (side gates and shed) but after a quick blast of WD40 about a year ago, they operate like new!

WD40 sux as that type of lubricant. Notice how tacky it is on the nozzle when it dries?

                    Go silicone based.
