    • Everytime I come into this thread I go to the Factory Five site and price out a donor car build to go with my '95 Cobra.
Fuck you. We're going to Costco.

Sounds like a lot until you start looking around at what $35k will buy. I'd say the "thrill-per-dollar" is a helluva value.

        • Looking great! Just curious why you are using a Celsius water temp gauge?
Good judgment comes from bad decisions and a lot of that comes from bad judgment.

Exactly. I have twice that in my 1995 and still wish it was a FFR Roadster.

I wonder if there is enough room between the two seats on the hump to mount a child car seat. I could always buy a kit and swap all my parts over then sell off my shell.

Yes they do, especially considering what I've seen lost on mustang builds.

I have a friend who purchased a 03 cobra recently for exactly half or what the guy had in it in parts/car, not counting labor, and he got two sets of wheels and and the factory t56.

Some people have made money and most get back around 80%+ on those kits. Not a bad return for the enjoyment.

              • I have been wanting to build one of these for years also. I was kinda prodding my wife about a GT40 kit that was on craigslist for a while that had some issues. Watching the amount of time it takes to put one of these together though could be my deciding factor. I have ADD real bad and would be better off buying one finished and tweaking I think.

Nice car though and I would love a ride someday when you get done with it. It may just change my mind. As soon as my kitchen remodel is done I will be in the hunt for my dream car project but who knows.

Yeah, I think he might be in a little more than that. He was in over 25K before a drivetrain, and he's running a 427 side oiler and a tko-600. I'd imagine that he's going to be in close to or over 50K after paint and body work.

                    • Damn, and I was kinda cringing at the $13k-ish I'm in the wagon for before interior, etc. Of course, it will be a whole different kind of car than the Cobra kit car.

If you had the complete kit, you can knock it out pretty quick. Whats taking mine so long is waiting for money to order my parts. Im pretty ADD aswell and it fucking SUCKS having this kind of money tied up for so long and not being able to drive it. I'll be happy to give rides when its done for sure.

Only thing I never liked about their kit was the height of the roll bar and the steering wheel being so close to the dash. I guess they are easy to remedy though; chop the bar down and go with a different IDIDIT collumn.

I would really like to go for a ride and get a feel for it. If my next job comes through like I hope, maybe I can build one myself next year.

I have only driven/rode in a LoneStar Classics kit. My old boss had a early build with nasty 347ci, twin throttle body, and sick paint job.

The rollbar is always a hot topic on the forum. I cut mine down an 1" which is about the most you can go without having to change the angle of the mounts on the frame. There are some vendors (Breeze) making shorter rollbars that angle back a little more and look pretty damn good. As far as the steering column goes Im planning on going with the Russ Thompson self cancelling turn signal, so it will be set out a little further than normal.

                            • ^^^I like that look so much better than scraping my knuckles on the dash to turn.

I had seen a guy on garagejournal doing a build where he had to cut on the roll bar mounts. Didn't look to hard but I would rather just buy a shorter bar to attach then to mod the one they send.

I just heard from the recruiter. If I get the mgmt position over the specialist, I will be doing a build next year. Maybe I can swing by in the next couple weeks if you are going to be working on it so I can see one in the process.
