  • Help me plan a Fall vacation

IF I get to take a vacation this year, we were thinking of taking a trip Northeast to see some real Fall colors. Something we could drive to in a couple of days, maybe an overnight stay halfway. I don't care about trying to race to the destination. Staying in the driver seat too long before may have contributed to my DVT last year. We like to get out and look at things along the way.

So I am open to suggestion. Keep in mind we have a 5 & 6 year old with us. Tennessee keeps coming to mind.

One of my best memories as a kid was a roadtrip vacation to the northwest. Every day we drove to something whether it be the grand canyon, yellowstone, mt st helons and mt rushmore. Same thine on the way back south along the coast.

    Id suggest something similar

The drive to the north east is boring as hell but if you want to go that way I suggest checking out DC.

Another vote for vegas. The weather is nice in Oct and Nov and all the colors you'd want to see in a casino. Our plane leaves Oct 15.

            Savannah, Georgia.

Edit: And before you go, read Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil.

The Smoky Mountains in Tennessee are really pretty in the fall, and you can drive through the mountains easily. One of the best vacations I have ever had.

I would go to Upstate NY, Watkins Glen/Finger Lakes area. Here's some pics from a few years ago when we went. It is beautiful in Sept/Oct. They also have wineries dotted along Seneca Lake, and its a lot of fun.

Try to work in a day trip to Gettysburg, if you haven't seen it. Honestly, a drive through the smokey mountains, thought the Shenandoah, and up through the Poconos, upstate NY, and on through New England to Maine would be the shit. You could fly into Knoxville, rent a car, and fly out of Boston back.
ZOMBIE REAGAN FOR PRESIDENT 2016!!! heh

What about New Mexico/Colrado? Plenty of trees to see change color in the fall (not sure when they start to turn tho), and it is pretty close. You can stay over night in Amarillo (nothing there tho really, except a 72 oz steak challenge), it's about half way, but an easy drive there and back.

Cadillac Ranch. And stay away from The Big Texan. Worst steak I've ever paid money for. Texas Roadhouse is better, and 1/3 the price.

Just got back from CO yesterday, and the Aspens are already bright yellow. The overall colors were amazing. Still wildflowers around, as well. You better go quick or you'll miss your window. Winter will hit soon.

I wish I were going next weekend. On the 15th, they're having a wine festival (with food and music, too) at the park in Lake City.

It's a long drive, but worth it if you stay a few days. You should do some other shit while you're there, like whitewater rafting, horseback riding, fly fishing, hiking, climb a 14er, rent a Jeep and do the Alpine Loop, etc.

I would also vote for CO, but be aware that snow usually starts mid-Oct for elevations around 10k ft, and that changes the trip quickly.

I too want to drive to New Engand, but that's after the PCH trip.

i second this. never been to the finger lakes but that was is probably the best place to go imo.

saratoga springs is a cool town.
