  • Trip to Vegas

While conversing with a family member the other day, she kinda hinted at a trip to Vegas, never been, bucket list wish. She's older and does for so many, unappreciated, needs a surprise. Anyone have a travel agent reference or service of some kind....or any idea how to put a 3-4 day trip for two to Vegas, accommodations and shows covered, give as a gift kinda thing?

I use vegas.com to book shows and southwest.com to book flights. I usually get comp'd room so I book those thru the casino website. But you can book an entire trip with shows and dinners via vegas.com.

That's where I'm at right now, on that site. I'm narrowing in on Caesars Palace and looks like my booking dates are dictaded by the show tickets. So I'll just book tickets/room then find tickets to an additional event somewhere same date range. I'll give it a shot.

So that's a bust, they want everyone's info ahead of time. Fuck sakes. I'll try contacting the casino directly.

If you do not have to have everything planned out ahead of time, tix4tonight.com is a good option. They have kiosk on the strip and downtown. You have to be a little flexible, most of the tickets they sell are for the day of purchase. You can buy show tickets, tour tickets, Grand Canyon tickets and such. Groupon for LV is also good for getting deals.

Suprised my wife with this last time we went. She had the time of her life.

Make sure to watch "Really Bad Things" before you make the trip.
Magnus, I am your father. You need to ask your mother about a man named Calvin Klein.

Just got back. Man that town is a different place. It was cool to see that’s for sure. Lots of people. Lots of drunk people. And now that weed is legal their lots of stoned people. It smells like weed up and down the strip. Was cool seeing all the big hotels and casinos.

I don't stay on the strip anymore when I go. I stay downtown at The D, or 4 queens.
Did the strip thing, its neat, but a beating getting from one casino to another. Downtown Fremont street can literally walk out one and into another, plus no traffic, Fremont street "wildlife", etc.

The D will probably be our choice when we return to Las Vegas. We used to stay there when it was Fitzgerald's and to me downtown always had the Strip beat hands down. Stayed at Harrah's a few times and although it was decent enough and had a good casino, we always combined a few nights stay downtown as well and to me it seemed more "sane" and a lot less hassle. The 4 Queens was a good casino, as was the Golden Nugget although the dealers there seemed a little stuffy. I never much cared at all for anything about the Horseshoe.

The D is very nice. Updated well and was fun to watch people walk up to the elevators and not see any buttons to push. You type in your room number in a keypad then it tells you which elevator will take you to your floor.

Check out Costco's travel site. It's usually fairly competitive with everyone else and will add a few perks from time to time.

Personally I'd book the airfare and hotel together somewhere and not bother with a rental car. Shuttles are pretty inexpensive and fairly reliable, cabs are more expensive but also reliable. Uber/Lyft can't do airport pickups but they can get you at the rental car center and shuttles to it are free.

If they are the type of people that'll want to see everything they can then I'd say recommend staying somewhere by Harrah's. Not there necessarily but it is a good location kind of in the middle of everything. That and it has a monorail station and it's own shuttles to the Rio. It's across the street from Caesar's Palace which is between the Bellagio and Mirage. The Venetian is also a great spot but it costs a lot more.

If they are people that'd probably stay in one resort the entire time then I'd recommend the Wynn, Venetian, Planet Hollywood or Mandalay Bay. The Wynn and Venetian are both extremely nice places with the Wynn being slightly more upscale in my opinion. Planet Hollywood has pole dancers around the tables and more of a party vibe but it's still very nice. Mandalay Bay is still probably my favorite place though and mostly due to it's pool.
