I have a hypothesis about this.
Extreme change in hair = recently failed diet.

I think that fat girls try a diet, and expect to see a major change. When, often times they fail miserably at it, they still desire a change but not stuffing their face is too hard. So they make an extreme change in their hair and likely get a lot of compliments from people in their life, especially on social media.. "oooh thats sooo cute!"... "Oh wow!".

They get a change in appearance without having to do much and fill the attention void that their fat ass has created. hair is the easiest thing to change yet usually nets lots of positive attention.

I think some of it has to do with recent weight gain. Some of these girls used to be hot. I have a friend at work who used to look amazing about 30 pounds ago. Like she would walk into a room and the record would scratch and all eyes went to her. Now she is a hot fat girl, still very nice looking but no record scratch.
