Old Whiskey - Any value?

So my dad has had this massive bottle of old grand-dad sitting around for about 10 years, don't remember where he got it. At any rate, someone approached him about buying it and gave him an offer of 300, following by 500 (after my dad countered at 600)

I can't find anything like it on the market. It's sealed, very large, has it's own stand. Sits about 18" tall. Stamps are mid 70's I think.

I know nothing on the subject. Sorry the picture sucks.

I feel like it could be worth a couple grand if advertised properly, I just don't know where to go or look, and I don't want him to undersell it because I also think it's a really cool piece.

Any thoughts, suggestions, evaluations?

Yeah, that's my one frame of reference. Could an unbroken seal be worth 2x, or maybe 5x?!

Is there a general rule of thumb that a particular bottle empty is worth X times full?
