    wife has the minimus (and VFF). I have the VFF and they're the only things I can run in (likely a mechanics in my gait issue as it's shin splints and other soreness).

    She likes the minimus because they look more like normal shoes and don't cause the toe fatigue of the VFF. The minimus are too narrow for my feet (I'm a hobbit).

    Most people get VFF and then try and go run their normal distances. You have to work up to it since you'll be using different muscles and causing different stresses... this is doubly important for seasoned runners because you'll have ingrained tendencies and will have the expectation that you should just be able to do your normal distances day 1.
