All the $$$ spent and R&D done to make them sleeker, thinner and more elegant; and we're STILL forced to cover it up with a big assed case to keep the shit from breaking the first time it's dropped.

i bought a simple $5 buck rubber case, screen protector, and a 16 gig micro sd card. in total i spent $20 bucks

I bought an Oterbox Commuter, which is not equal to a Defender. My phone cracked within a week. The Commuter lacked a continuous bezel surround for the screen and the phone cracked from one gap across to the other gap. I will always make sure to buy continuous bezel cases now.
