  • Plex and 4k

I have a LG with webos 3.5 and the plex app installed.

I have a plex server setup on my computer and several 4k HDR movies.

When I try to watch say... Black Panther on my LG it buffers about every 30-60 seconds.

I looked and my CPU isn't getting over 30% utilized during any of this, but if it helps it is a 4770k, 24GB memory, GTX 980.

I am using WiFi over a 5GHz band.

Anyone have any ideas on how I can solve this? I assume it has something to do with plex transcoding all of my 4k HDR content because when I watch anything on Netflix that is 4k HDR it streams just fine.

You could be exceeding your network's bandwidth. Check that first.

I have a netgear Nighthawk R600 and the only thing on that 5g is my computer, phone, and TV. But no, I just tested it and I'm nowhere near the 1300mbps.

Ok, do you have "hardware acceleration" enabled? That will use the gpu to transcode instead of the cpu. If you've not set that or changed the default cpu utilization, it won't use much cpu time so as not to interfere with other tasks.

If free, I could dl the paid installer since it comes from a different distribution channel. Maybe it has the feature, regardless of account level?

No change. I'll do the 4.99 and see if that fixes it.

If anything, it seems worse after enabling the hardware acceleration.
