    I've never used it. What contents are you referring to?

      Just dl that application and open it. It'll show the contents of the hosts file in the main body of the app. Copy/paste its contents.

        I dl'ed it and installed it on the HP. I opened it and am looking at a main body containing about 19 lines of script starting with, "This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows". There is a number at the bottom next to "localhost". It is difficult to copy and paste from one computer to another, which is why I was curious what it is I am looking for.

          Just wondering - do you have the option to hardwire the affected PC to the router and test that connection?

          It may make it easier to do the downloads, copy/paste, etc to help troubleshooting.
          .

            Yes, I direct connected it and the network center showed a connection and yet no browser was able to connect. The same as it does with the wifi connection.

              # 102.54.94.97 rhino.acme.com # source server
              # 38.25.63.10 x.acme.com # x client host
              127.0.0.1 localhost
              ::1 localhost

              This is what it should show.

                Those are exactly the numbers it shows except for the last line "::1 localhost".

                    Yeah I used the "Restore MS Hosts File" feature and rebooted. It didn't seem to change anything.

                      Have you checked for the presence of malware?
