  • A key differentiator is that I work in the public sector, so every contract or purchase goes out to bid, and everything, including pricing, is public knowledge. It wouldn't be as simple as just taking my clients with me on the spot, I would have to wait out their current contracts, and then bid and win them for the new company, with the only "edge" being my name and perceived value as a consultant. Nothing of what I do or sell is proprietary to the company that I work for, and I have had quite a few colleagues throughout the years go to a competitor without issue or incident. Also factor in that we are a reseller, as a company we don't produce or design anything, we merely connect the buyers with the providers, help them get the best price, and provide a level of ongoing intermediary support and consultation.

Which I hope will change soon, and I'll be selling directly, making all a moot point.

    • If anything, this has been a lesson in patience, this was to be a "quick hire" they said, but there were apparently a lot of resumes submitted. I interviewed with the hiring manager and his team 2 weeks ago, did well enough to secure a spot in the top two, and finally had an interview with the Territory Director up in Redmond yesterday afternoon. I think that I did well, she was super personable, and the conversation flowed, but I didn't walk away feeling like I got it or I didn't.

Now I get to wait one more week for a final decision, due to them travelling for meetings for half of next week, At least the end is in sight, and I can hold my head high knowing that I did the best I could, and didn't have to pee on anyone's hands, or smoke a doobie.+

FWIW One of the two off-beat questions I was asked, was what my favorite episode # of Star Trek was.

I would have failed the star trek question. Actually i probably woiluld have committed to acting like ive never heard of it and then mentioned i dont watch tv...dfwm is the only entertainment i need.

        • My bad, I had to re read the thread. I was supposed to rub one out, and not wash my hands. Not too effective on a conference call.

I recently switched jobs, no interviews, no sit downs...etc. Still took a month, it was to a company where I know a lot of folks. The process is the process.

I'd figure starting from scratch with the typical process will be 2-3 months minimum.

              • I am surprised that no one has mentioned getting a blow job before the interview. If that doesn't calm your mind I suggest that you need to cut back on your caffeine intake.
Magnus, I am your father. You need to ask your mother about a man named Calvin Klein.

There are a lot of instances where that wont calm the mind...especially for a married man.

...with a pregnant wife who won't come anywhere near me right now, she hates me for "doing this to her."

I'm supposed to find something out today or tomorrow, though previous experience has taught me that if I didn't get it, I'll have to call HR next week to find out. They have been not great at proactively reaching out to me throughout the process, though this is a new HR contact from last time, so who knows.

I've had the Flu since Sunday, which has made the week hell in a totally different way. I don't know that I could muster the energy right now to get excited if I did get the call.

So you're saying you need viagra, to rub one out?
                      And, wash your hands afterwards!

Yeah, one way or the other. As exciting and lucrative as the new opportunity is, I'll be under a lot of pressure, so there is a little bit of apprehension there, but that'll subside once I hit my stride.

We found out about the baby a few days ago, and I was only mostly kidding about the wife hating me for it. We were planning on starting to try in the beginning of 2016, so she's a tad frustrated to already have to start dealing with being pregnant. Neither of us were actively trying to prevent anything, and what can I say, I have good aim.

For the record Rob, no Viagara was used for making this baby.

I told him to go rub one out in their bathroom. Must be why he's all butthurt at me.
