  • 01 Cherokee 2wd to 4wd?

I've got an 01 cherokee that I love, except for the fact that it's 2wd. What would it cost to convert it? 4.0 auto

On trucks I've always heard it us cheaper to buy a 4 wheel drive in the long run, on jeeps though it couldn't be to hard to find the parts, but the labor could be alot.

      Sent from a bathroom.

Do you want it to be stock or totally custom?
          New or Junkyard?

          Stock:
          New Tranny with 4x4 output/adapter $300-1500
          Tcase/Linkage $50-$800
          Front Axle $50-$800
          Drivelines $200-$800
          Steering $25-$400
          Suspension $50-$700

          Thats just for parts.

With a D35 rear, you'd want a D30 to match the front... Both are junk for wheeling.

Labor would be a couple grand more.

Easier to just by a 4wd version.
If your a mechanic/do it your selfer, find a totaled one with all the parts you need for Cheap & sell of the extras.

d30 isnt necessarily "junk". the d35 is tho. a 8.8 swap is pretty straight forward. but yeah, unless the jeep is FREE and you know how to cut/weld and fabricate it's easier to just sell it and buy a 4wd.

I should have phrased that better.
D30s are junk for any tire over 31".
D44s are junk for any tire over 35"
D60s are junk for any tire over 40"

No front locker will allow you to go a bit bigger.
Same goes from Chromoly shafts/upgraded joints.

And by junk, I mean will break (eventually) with any sort of good wheeling.
