I did something today I thought I would never do. I've ditched my old traditional offset and grill in favor of an XL BGE. I'm still not sure how I feel about it. A major factor in my decision was that I'm limited on space, so 1 unit that will do the job of 2 was appealing.

Hell hath frozen over. Pigs have wings. Women pretending to be men, and men pretending to be women. I'm not sure what universe I woke up in but here I am. As some of you know I've been 100% against the BGE, electric smokers, pellet smokers, etc. So this is a huge change for me. More to come after I fire it up this weekend.

Yes. The one I picked up on CL is a Diem Kamado from the 1960's, one of the first manufacturers in America. The grate isn't rusted and there is very little soot inside it, but it's missing some parts and replacement parts are non existent. I'm having a s/s vent door made for the bottom vent, and I've ordered a smokeware cap in hopes that it will work for the top. But there are some things about it that I don't care for. No fire ring, relatively thin ceramics, etc in comparison to the Kamados made today. That one will go to the farm for use up there, and will be used solely as a grill. I have an offset smoker up there. The Diem is also a large, and doing packer briskets, etc would be difficult due to size limitation.
