It seems at this point that they just have to let the water do whatever it will to the main spillway in order to prevent a breach of the emergency spillway that could end in catastrophic failure.
It'll be interesting to see what they have to do in order to rebuild the main spillway that's so badly damaged already - and God only knows what it'll look like in the coming days with the insane volume of water coming through there now.
