need a new laptop. still rocking my dell xps m1530 from almost ten year ago, so that might give you an idea of my needs.

i dont play computer games, but i would like something decently quick, something i can watch movies on at 1080 preferably, basic internet browsing, looking for a traditional keyboard, just something pretty well versed.

would like to keep it under 500, but cheaper is better.

Just set one of these up for a customer, it's an absolute beast, but the touchpad is kinda quirky.

I like Acer and that's a decent machine, but I'm here to tell you, the one I linked is hands down a superior pc.

That Lenovo is a lot of computer for the money. SSD compared to old school hard drive is night and day....difference...actually more like comparing a 14k dial up modem to a 100mbps T1 connection..its astounding on some computers what a difference it makes. My 2010 2.4ghz/8gb ram Macbook Pro takes about 1 min 45 sec to boot up to the login screen using the old hard drive...when I replaced it with a 256gb SSD drive it now takes a little over 20 seconds to accomplish the same thing...and its WAY more responsive in normal use..and the battery lasts about 50% longer on a charge.

i bought this. how long can i expect a modern day laptop to last?

the computer came with mcafee, but the guy wasnt thrilled about that, pushing eset instead. what should i go with?

i want to invest no time into my computer, i want the most simplest plug and play options for this computer.

Personally I don't use any of the Mcafee, Norton or most other pre-installed malware/antivirus software because their primary goal is revenue...and they will constantly ask you to buy more and more services and software. If you have no common sense regarding clicking on links or look at porn and risky sites none of those paid services will keep your computer clean. If you DO have common sense...I would go with Windows Defender and use your brain. I've used Microsoft Security Essentials since it came out years ago and now use Windows Defender and have yet to have any issues. My first suggestion if you bought that Lenovo laptop is to go to Control Panel, then Settings, then Programs and Features...and then delete all the bloatware, games, free trials and other garbage that eventually make you buy something....and CLEAN HOUSE.

While I prefer my employer's product, if I wasn't using it, I'd recommend Defender because it's free and is reasonably effective without hampering system performance.

As to the life of that laptop, I couldn't say, but if it lasts 3+ yrs, you've gotten your money's worth. ram mentioned debloating that when you get it, but it has no bloatware, I was pleasantly surprised about that face when I setup the one over the weekend.

A couple days before Thanksgiving I picked up an I5/8gb Lenovo M90 refurb tower at Microcenter for my mother to replace her Mac Mini and when I set it up it was a fairly clean Win 10 install but I did have a few unnecessary extra "trial" programs that I felt were bloat so I deleted them...but it was NOTHING compared to previous Windows computers I've dealt with in the past from Toshiba, Acer, HP and others.
