  • Are there any concerns with the Auto trannys in Jeep TJ's?

So I sold my '92 Mustang and now i'm shopping for a Jeep. Price range is $8-$10K, so I've been primarily looking at TJ's because i'd really like to have Hard Top and A/C (4.0L is mandatory). Up to now i've been dead set on a manual trans because I just like manual trannys. But if the right Jeep comes along is there any reason to discount the auto tranny? How reliable and durable are they behind the 4.0L? Anything else I should be aware of when shopping for a TJ? Thanks.

Nope TJ is the way to go hands down. Autos are fine and reliable. They have OD starting in 03 but either is fine. I run 4.11's and 35's and it runs great in town and on the highway. With a OD TJ you could get away with 4.56 gears and 35's.
