Then you need to leave the topic to those who are concerned, and who do care.
Speed, reliability, overall quality, correct prices, more options, etc etc.

What do you think the whole point of all this is? It's to get to a point where people like Google CAN do this, without having to fight other providers who are basically blocking them through contracts or lobbying payouts. Shit.

Actually, the taxpayers have given telecoms giant handouts to expand data networks, and in the absence of any meaningful regulation over them, those firms haven't expanded the networks. The tendency is for states and (more frequently) municipalities to then step in and upgrade existing data networks. Then somehow, the telecoms get control of those local networks at little to no cost.

Are you both serious? You're really going to compare ads and marketing campaigns to Orwellian spying? Sounds like someone else needs to leave the conversation, and its not just me.

Not to mention that those are private entities, and frankly you nor anyone else has the right to tell them what to do. If they want to price themselves out of the market, or go out of business due to their lousy practices, that's their right. As much as its your right to keep the inside of your house shitty if you want. That's why you have companies like google coming along, saying "Hey we're going to put those clowns out of business here in a few. It'll be good times!"

To hear you two talk, we need the stupid ass, proven full retard government to intervene, dammit! Communism here we come! National socialism, here we come! Its like you're welcoming in having your rights trampled. I understand it needs to change. The way you're going about it isn't the way to do it.

As a semi-unrelated note, when I was in Costa Rica, the netflix selection was fucking amazing compared to the watered down offerings that we have. Further, I was in the middle of the jungle, backed up to a rain forest near La Fortuna, and the wifi speeds were 5x faster than what my 24mg uverse pulls down.

              We were staying here:

And another, I'll link because it's huge.

There was internet everywhere in that damn country.

So the people that are in the way of network upgrades were given money (thru tax breaks or a check) to upgrade their network. The government didn't watch over the tax payers dollar, so the ISP's didn't upgrade their network. Why would they, they have contracts with municipalities to own the area, and keep competition out. Clearly we should hand power to the government, because we all know they aren't the problem here.

The government already has the power in question. The problem is they haven't been using it. The tendency is for regulators and the industries they regulate to become cozy over time, with talent going back and forth from one side to the other. That makes the whole industry a bit incestuous. The telecom industry is no different, so here we are.

your ignorance is showing where do you think they get a lot the information? corporate databases

if you run Chrome download Collusion

Or if you run Firefox dowload lightbeam

Both of those will blow your mind on the amount of companies whose sole purpose is to track you, but your most likely running explorer which explains a lot of why you dont understand

Oh here's an example of what the corporations do:

To hear you two talk, we need the stupid ass, proven full retard government to intervene
they are already ahead of you :

Verizon Wireless recently announced customers could opt-out of the tracking program, but a group of senators wants more.

1984 is here, except instead of just the government monitoring, now it includes every buisness.

have you every wondered why companies ask for only your zip code when you buy something? Its not for your security

The spying big companies do is more of the Aldous Huxley/Ray Bradbury type.

                          I agree.

Ghostery works well too, for chrome.

Its likely we're both close to the same age lol. Its probably safe to assume the only reason you "have to suffer" is because you still live at home with mom out in BFE, or simply can't afford to move someplace better or pay for faster internet. In short, its not anyone elses fault you're poor.

lol, I'm running firefox with enough anti spying addons that the NSA probably has me on watch list just because I'm being so private. I assure you, none of that is happening to me. I'm assuming you've never heard of things like Noscript, ghostery, even adblock plus. And if I feel that for some reason that isn't working, I'll use Tor. Next?

Putting these companies in the same category as the government when it comes to resources and spying ability is just stupid.
