I am looking for info from someone here who has some knowledge about building a variable DC power supply that is powered with regular house hold 110 AC. I am needing a supply that can output from 0 - 150 or 200v and a adjustable current level from 0-5ish amps. Any first hand expierience here????

it's really hard to get 200 volts dc from 120v ac.Don't worry about what you can't change.

Jyro, I see the info tag on that.... what does the 2-25/5-50 mean on the output #'s? I know that it is the measurements depending in if you have 120 or 240 input voltage but I am not used to seeing the ratings written like that. I could do fine with 120vdc output,I would like more though if it was easily available. 5amp 200VDC power supply is a going to be a beast and definitely something you are not going to build at home. Dangerous as hell as well. Good luck. We use 2 amp regulated bench supplies that can go to 200 VDC at work and they cost close to $700.00.Comment

Yeah, I've been considering it for the last 2 hours and, while I think it could be done, there's some risk to building power supplies that lack adequate control circuitry. For low power applications, there are some really economical regulated power supplies that can be constructed.
