  • So happy to get in shape!

I have spent my entire life being fat and decided to change that. Over the last month I have changed up my diet and have lost 46lbs. Just today I was cleared to start working out after my hernia surgery and did my first workout ever. Never been a member of a gym and started up a membership. I cant do any lifting yet till the hernia is completely healed but I did a solid couple hours of cardio doing a few miles on the tread mill, a mile on an epelitical machine (holy crap that was hard) and another 5 miles on a bike with it on variable resistance. I know I will be sore like crazy tomorrow but I am so stoked to get into shape for the first time ever. I am blessed to have so many good friends to help me and go workout with me nearly every day. I am going to start off slow with every other day doing a couple hours but will soon switch to every day. I cant believe how much better I already feel and am really looking forward to finally being at a proper weight. I have always been over 350lbs and am shooting for 250lbs. Feels good to get into shape and am really stoked. Just how much better I already feel has me excited.
I cant wait to be able to start doing weights again and get my strength back after the recent hernia surgery.
I love my new wife beyond compare and want to spend a long healthy life with her and our kids.
I am always looking for pointers though so any help is appreciative. I have cut out soda and eating breads after 3pm and have great coaches to help me with cardio. I am eating great salads for dinner and have switched from one large meal a day to serveral smaller ones and am so happy that my belt is 5 notched smaller already .Whoo hoo! Cant wait to hit the guy agian tomorrow!
Good judgment comes from bad decisions and a lot of that comes from bad judgment.

Damn 46 lbs in only a month, that's amazing. Keep it up. I'm struggling just to lose my beer belly.

The hardest part is making it a routine thing. On thise days when you tell yourself, I'm too tired I will go tomorrow. Or I'm too sore. Go any way! This was my downfall last year trying to get back into my cycling routine. There was always something else I needed to do, or too tired from the day, then the baby came along.

...and then you have 2 kids, fly 60K miles a year for work, coach baseball... I wouldn't trade it for anything although my bike is awfully lonely right now.

This. Right now, just focus on being consistent. You've already cut out sodas and breads so you should see results from that for a long while. Take in 64+ ounces of water daily.

Be consistent! Get a fitbit if it helps motivate you.

            And 350!....holy damn!

I'm pissed at myself when I break 200.. I don't really eat during the day because it slows me down.. but I have zero self control at night.. I average about 10-15k steps a day though so I burn off a lot

Would love to wear 34" pants again..

Not without surgery, Did they remove an arm while sorting out your hernia?. FOS.

It IS possible when you start out at 350+. Granted it's not going to be all fat but it goes to show just how much water/food weight is caused by sugar, sodium, and carbs.

Yes, 46lbs in a month. That's what my doctors office shows. That's a combo of dropping soda, no breads after 3pm, cutting out all sweets, using the stairs instead of elevator, lots of sex, lots of water and instead of eating one large meal after work I eat 3 smaller meals through ought the day. I have pulled my belt in 5 notches. Was at the end one and am now at the second from the last tightest.
I actually really enjoyed my workout last night and while I am sore today it is manageable. I will be going again tonight and plan on going at least 4 times per week if not more. For now I am focusing on cardio until the hernia fully heals so I can switch to some weight lifting. I really want to get my upper body strength back and with the poor eating habits as well as the excessive office work I have lost quite a bit.

At least I have lots of supportive friends willing to work out with me and help push me. A surgeon friend of mine has been making me pre sup drinks and she has kept making me amino acid drinks for while we are at the gym. My wife is a fitness trainer too so I have a lot on my side to keep it up.
Like today I really don't feel like going back again but know that's all the more reason to go work out tonight.

For now I am working on burning off the fat, sick of being fat. So if anyone has actual constructive help to offer to help cut the fat I am all ears.
For the non -believer, too bad. I am not here to impress you. You don't want to believe then don't believe. No sweat off my sack. I am simply sharing my willingness for a healthy lifestyle and hope to get some advice from others that have been in similar situations.
No reason to be negative about someone trying to better themselves.

I don't know shit about shit, but I lost 30lbs over 8 months and have kept it off for a year. I did small incremental changes in my life that eventually became a lifestyle change. To my knowledge, not including surgery, people who lose massive weight like that starve themselves or do some "diet" and lose the weight fast and then bring it back on with even more weight. There is no such thing as a diet, you have to change your lifestyle...and you cant do that overnight and make it stick in MOST cases...

That's what I have done, complete lifestyle change. The things I eat, starting actual exercise, etc etc. My surgeon and doctor friend said I would see a large weight loss at first and it would tapper off which it pretty much has. Getting rid of the sugars and soda and cheeseburgers has made that initial change for the drastic drop. Since that first drop i am only losing a lb every couple days which was to be expected and I was told would happen. I know the next 80lbs will take a year or more and I am fine with that. I know real results take time and that the initial drop was just due to getting rid of junk food and such.

Since you have a hernia, and I have no experience with that (thankfully), just keep hitting the cardio. I would suggest breaking up the cardio into separate 30 minute sessions rather than a continuous one hour or more session. I don't recall where I read it but I read that a 30 minute cardio session will offer the same calorie burn than a one hour session.

                            keep it up!
