Buy the 970, then upgrade your cpu later to the fastest your chipset supports, and it should be fine.

Solid plan imo. The new CPU won't even be very much money. And yes some games these days will eat quad cores that are only 2 or 3 years old. Call it poor optimization, or just a game that is way too demanding, but it happens. A few youtube reviews will show this.

Looks like you need a 3570k.

That one's a little expensive. Seems they've held their value more than I thought. Looks like they're about $150-$180. I would say go down to the 2500k but looks like that's a different damn socket. I really don't like the way they force you to buy a new motherboard whenever you want to change CPU's these days. I could run an old pentium 4, or a q9650 in my old socket 775 gaming rig. What's that, a 5 year gap? Fuck those guys
