    Junk yes. You read good.
8 edelbrocks and 11 Holleys all Holleys worked like a champ straight out of the box and I made them work and perform even better.
All edelbrocks wouldn't idle and ran rich straight of the box and would run lean at WOT I messed with them and messed with them and gave up on them, customer swapped to a Holley and was pleased.
    Any more questions?

There's a reason you don't see race cars with edelbrock's.

Holley, hands down. I've had 2 brand new Edelbrocks and the Holley that I rebuilt and I will never go back to Edelbrock. I don't have any problems at all from my Holley

I've never seen an Edelbrock that didn't run rich out of the box and need a bit of work to perform right.

I disagree completely, I have used at least a dozen edelbrocks and they were just about right on, straight out of the box. I have also had great luck with Holley's though. Edelbrocks are just so crisp off idle compared to Holley's.

I say if you want driveability go edelbrock

                  Performance then holley

Tuning an Edelbrock is going to be very similar to tuning a quadrajet because of the metering rods and metering rod springs. The springs are picked based on engine vacuum miuch like you would a power valve in a holley. The tuning procedure would be very similar to a motorcycle carburetor in that wide open throttle is mainly affected by jet size, and low to mid throttle is affected by the metering rod size, profile, and springs used. Like I said before, a 600 cfm Edelbrock on a mostly stock small block C.I. engine will perform pretty well right out of the box with simple air screw adjustments. If you run into hesitations, bogs, rich spots, lean spots, etc, then that is where the fun comes in.

I prefer a Holley but most people have problems with both due to having it over carbed. Most street engines dont need more than 600 and perform better with smaller.

You've had a lot better luck than I have then. I've had them be very rich on idle even on a slightly undersized carb and rich throughout the range of the motor. I almost prefer a quadrajet over a edelbrock only down side is finding baseplates that aren't too wore out.

There is NO BETTER carb than a good Quadrajet. Seriously.

As for your original question, I've had good luck with both. Holleys are easy and very responsive to minor changes. Edelbrocks are REAL easy but all the changes I ever made to one did almost nothing, lol.

My personal preference is Holley. And when I say Holley, I'm talking about double pumpers. If you're convinced you gotta have vacuum secondaries, just get the Edelbrock.

                              I'm not convinced of anything.

The 1st step I am taking is to pull my bad holley and let Jet look at it ( he is confident it is a simple fix). If I have to buy a new carb, I dont know what rode I would take.

Like I said before, you have guys that are true to thier favorite, and the others are junk. Im waiting now on the QUADRAJUNK guys to start a fire about your assesment. I agree with you, but now very few that know them well enough to build a GOOD one.

you have to have clean fuel whatever you use. Most of the problems with either one are trash related. always purge the fuel line when putting in a new carb, no teflon tape, best fuel filter you can get. 7 1/2 lbs fuel pressure max for the Holley, no more. Ebroks are ok for the street, junk for racing unless there are 2 of them.
Don't worry about what you can't change.
Do the best you can with what you have.
Be honest, even if it hurts.
