  • Snap caps vs. Glock "dummy" rounds?

So I was looking at buying some Snap Caps so I can practice failure drills on my next range trip and stumbled across these on Glock's website.

50 "rounds" for $20 seems to be a no brainer compared to Snap Caps $15 for 5 rounds. But I haven't been able to find a review of them and just looking at the picture (they don't really offer much in the way of a description) it looks like just a plain ole plastic round where the Snap Caps have a spring on them.

In the past I've always read that it's a good idea to use the Snap Caps with the spring to provide some sort of impact cushion but is that really a thing?

I like the snap caps, or the version with the actual shell casing and the orange plastic tip (don't remember manufacture but they are on the NRA instructor supply page). Thing I'd worry about with the plastic ones are maybe over time the case lip may become dis figured and not eject right. I don't know just thinking out loud. And if you're sure to pick them up every time, do you really need 50? Haha

Well, the reason I'm having to buy some now is that I've lost mine all at the range. When I've done those quick slide racks and have the dummy round go flying out past the point of no return at an indoor range where I couldn't quite get to it with the broom. If I had 50 of them I probably wouldn't care loosing a few every now and then

I just throw spent brass in the mag. It is free and you don't have to worry about losing it.

Depending on the malfunction drill, I, too, use empty brass on the range. For type 3, I'll use real ammo. It's all practice, right? So expending $1.00 down range or at the firing line to practice drills, it's all good either way.

I'll use snap caps at the house. Otherwise, I'll dry practice without anything.

Honestly, I never thought about using empty brass. Good to know. Might still buy some and use either depending on the situation.
