  • Rustoleum roll on paint job- 88 GMC Suburban

A while back I picked up an 88 GMC Suburban 4x4 for cheap. The paint was shit but interior was clean, has cold front and rear ac, and runs like a top. I decided to do a cheap roll on paint job. It came out pretty decent for a roller. It really needed way more body work that what I was willing to do, but it is what it is. For $100 ish I’m pretty happy. Here’s a few before and after pics.

It was a shit ton of work! That’s a lot of real estate, but I love this truck. Reminds me of my K5 I drove back in high school.

Did you mix rustoleum and acetone 50/50? That seems to be what some do.

I went a little thicker just because the original paint was crap and really needed to go to bare metal. I figured a little thicker would help cover, and I could always wet sand and buff. But even at like 60/40 it still laid out “smooth”

And the smell too, most these squarebodys have a distinct smell haha. I had a hat in there but my son stole it out of there.

It's that god damn insulation they used with the tar in it, or whatever that crap was. Oh and the fiber board bottom door panels and back area. I was raised in suburbans and blazers all around that era. My uncle had a 6.5 3/4 tone with aftermarket turbo that was lifted. He was always tearing something up on it and my moms with the ole 350 was always just chugging right along.
