  • Surprise! Radical Islamist smuggled across US-Mexico border

Almost seven years ago, the 9/11 Commission warned Congress about the security risk the nation runs against terrorist infiltration over the US-Mexico border (as wel as the US-Canadian border). Specifically, they recommended heightened security along both borders to ensure that terrorists could not cross over from either Canada or Mexico undetected, and that “[i]t is elemental to border security to know who is coming into the country” [page 407]. Since then, conservatives have demanded border security and immigration enforcement as part of a rational national-security strategy. Opponents to this approach argue that conservatives blow this out of proportion, that there is no evidence of such infiltration, and the argument only serves to feed xenophobia.
This puts a dent in that argument:
U.S. border authorities have arrested a controversial Muslim cleric who was deported from Canada to Tunisia three years ago and was caught earlier this month trying to sneak into California inside the trunk of a BMW, according to court documents.
Said Jaziri, the former Imam of a Muslim congregation in Montreal, was hidden inside a car driven by a San Diego-area man who was pulled over by U.S. Border Patrol agents near an Indian casino east of San Diego. Jaziri allegedly paid a Tijuana-based smuggling group $5,000 to get him across the border near Tecate, saying he wanted to be taken to a “safe place anywhere in the U.S.”
The arrest marks the unexpected resurfacing of the 43-year-old cleric, whose protracted legal battle to avoid deportation drew headlines in Canada. A Tunisian immigrant, Jaziri was deported for failing to disclose a criminal conviction in France while applying for refugee status in the mid-1990s.
But Jaziri’s supporters said he was targeted for his fundamentalist views: Jaziri backed Sharia law for Canadian Muslims and led protests over the publication of the prophet Muhammad cartoons in a Danish newspaper in 2006.
Canada deported Jaziri in 2007 after they discovered that he lied in a refugee application about his criminal record in France. David Knowles gives a quick FAQ about Jaziri, and also has this 2007 report from the CBC on Jaziri’s expulsion from Canada:

It's great that they caught him and that this will be definite fodder in the argument for better protection.
Who knows how many have come in undetected thanks to the traitors that want open borders and gift bags for every illegal.

But don't you understand? Any risk to american's lives is far far less important than potential votes for a political party. (even though being illegal, they can't actually vote) Also the poor! The poor! What about the poor! Those beaners are poor and they have a right to break the law and come here and work illegally!

See I think if they can get rid of anchor babies, the repubs will have struck a fatal blow to the dems. The whole party will change after that. The dems have to rely on ignorance to stay in power. Take that away, and they'd be force to change or die.

You're talking about a party that shoved a shitty health-care bill down our throats, knowing damn well that 70% of Americans didn't want it. It's all about power. If a few thousand of us expendable citizens get killed for that to happen, no biggie.

Seems like a lose/lose. If they let a few thousand get killed, something will be done about the border. If they don't, the beaners will still come here and use their anchor babies to vote. So either way, seems like something is going to get done about the border. But will it be amnesty, or expulsion?

Around 1986 (I think), Reagan granted amnesty to about 3 million illegals to appease the liberals. In exchange, congress was to close down the borders. It never happened (liberals lie?), and it was, and still is, used against the Reagan administration. That was just 3 million...

Just remember, the old Republican controlled congress could have secured the border but didn't. A lot of Republicans would rather make it easy for cheap labor to enter this country. Democrats think those people will eventually be voting for them.

Until I see evidence to the contrary, I will hold that, at the Federal level, both parties have no interest in a secured southern border.

I've been saying for a long time that we need to have a mass round up of all illegals. Even the ones that were born here and using anchor baby status. I know its a manpower nightmare but it could happen. Hell I would volunteer for it for a short time.
We then need to go straight Berlin Wall on the southern border. Have 2 fences 75-100 yards apart. If you get caught between them you get shot. No questions asked. Couple that with severe penalties(jail time) for people who knowingly employ them and it would be problem solved.

It's all a pipe dream though.

In all honesty, its not even needed. Simply make it impossible for them to find a job and they won't come to begin with. It becomes infinitely easier to patrol and protect the border if you get the number of illegal crossing attempts down to just a trickle. You wouldn't even need the wall.

If the shit hits the fan, you'll see it happen. You'll also see political correctness go back to the stone age. But that's like if the US gov't fails or something.

I would volunteer for a mass round up as well. It could be done easy for little cost. They just don't want it. And don't forget about those latino rights groups who think illegals have rights in this country.....
