You can't measure just clear with a mill gauge. It will tell you how much material is on the panel from metal up. Also if a car is not laser straight and you take out all of the texture it will magnify every imperfection under the topcoat. Some cars actually look better with a little orange peel on them.

Anyone competent who bids the job for you will measure the mils to determine how much overall paint is on the car. They can get a rough idea of what they have, and can do some test spots to make sure. Good luck man, a good cut and buff can make the paint job look better than a new car if done right.

+1 for Nick. I've done quite a few cars with him, and I wouldn't hesitate to call him if I were you. He def knows what he is doing!

Yea I have a couple of cell phone pics... So far is going okay. I didn't sand it completely flat. Working on buffing now. This was quite a project!

Sorry if these pics are too big... I'm on my phone and can't resize.

Hopefully finishing in a few days. I'll post more when it's finished.

Hell Yea it is. Sucks when you have a shit paint job to start with. Took a while to accept that its not going to be perfect no matter what I do... But it's 1000% better now than it was.

Found some pics on my camera card that I never transferred over... Here it is after my newbie attempt of wetsanding / buffing. Still learning to use the camera, so I took alot more, just not happy with them.
