What would be the best way to add remote start to a 2013 Mustang (auto), a factory Ford unit or aftermarket? I assume aftermarket, if so, which is the best bang for the buck? I don't need a ton of range, but I'm sure the better ones have better range anyway.

I used to be familiar with DEI and Clifford, are those still popular? Are there better ones around these days?

DEI sells product under many names like Viper, Clifford, Python, Hornet, Automate, Avital, etc. Aftermarket is the only way to go. You can remote start the car using just a data module or you can add a longer range remote or smartphone control to the data module or you can add a full blown security system. There are quite a few ways to add remote start.

We've got them starting at $349 installed (vehicles older than 2002 may be as low as $279). That's a single-button fob. If you want security integration, we have this package:

At that price I could hire someone to start my truck.

            Full alarm/start
            Data interface
            Proximity sensor
            Looks about right to me.

Above that, I posted our basic "single button" system which runs $349 (less in some cases).
