Default Build guns other than AR variants

Everyone is freaking the fuck out asking "where can I get a cheap AR lower" or "XYZ place is gouging on components". Well, here is a solution... build something else.

AK Variants

RTG parts has AK flats for $2-

http://robertrtg.com/tantal_blank.html

http://robertrtg.com/akms_blank.html

With rivet sets for $9-

http://robertrtg.com/akrivets.html

Apex has parts kits for $250 and up-

https://www.apexgunparts.com/product...roducts_id/627

https://www.apexgunparts.com/product...oducts_id/1209

https://www.apexgunparts.com/product...oducts_id/1687

https://www.apexgunparts.com/product...oducts_id/2592

https://www.apexgunparts.com/product...roducts_id/611

HK33 Variant-

Flat for $169

http://robertrtg.com/hk93receiverflat.html

Parts for $375

https://www.apexgunparts.com/product...roducts_id/875

Uzi-

Receivers for $100

http://www.nodakspud.com/NDS-1948.htm

Parts for $169

https://www.apexgunparts.com/product...oducts_id/1816

(you will need some ancillary semi parts)

Other ideas:
MP5s (RTG has flats for $100)
Stens (easy as hell and cheap)
Sterlings
PPS43
FMK-3
1919 (I have always wanted to do this)
Suomis
FALs
G3s
RPDs

The kits are out there. And you can slap an AK together for under $500 easily. Also, JBI in Denton will help you with your AK build:
http://jbiarmory.com/Home.html

Just throwing this out there.

So if I order this parts AK 47 kit:
https://www.apexgunparts.com/product...roducts_id/611

Along with this barrel:
https://www.apexgunparts.com/product...oducts_id/1481

Ok just re-read the flat info, will work for AK47. The polish kit I listed says it needs a milled receiver, would this stamped flat work? Than what else would I need, besides having the barrel drilled for the gas port?

Yep, a milled kit needs to go with a milled receiver. Milled receivers can be found, but are more expensive.

You will need a rivet kit from RTG ($8), receiver rails ($10 at RTG), parts kit, barrel, 922r compliance parts (which your barrel meets, as well as your semi auto trigger group), and that's all folks.

Dont forget that during the last ban, it only allowed complete guns to be a "preban" category. So stripped receivers built afterwards, were post ban guns.

Just some thought as I know most get concerned with the constructive intent thing when it comes to NFA guns.

Sure, but they could, you know, build them now as I was proposing.

If you can't tig weld and own a press you probably shouldn't start building an HK rifle.

Yes, it is a bit more involved than an AR build but TPM here locally can help you if needed.

So wait... if I build all my stripped lowers before the ban, and swap complete uppers with them that means that it was a finished rifle? If the rifle was completely built then I should be exempt correct?

I have been planning on building a few AKs. I've got two 7.62 and a 5.45 receiver and rails with a few other parts. I really just need to decide on parts kits. Oh, and I need a 12 ton press and spot welder.

Does this hold true for the AK style rifles as well? I can TIG but don't own a press. I'm not local to that shop in Denton so I'd have to find another route.

Could someone explain the finer points of how the ban *might* work? As in how the previous one worked? When you say that unless the gun is purchased complete it is going to be considered "post-ban", so does that mean if I have a complete gun purchased and swap the upper, it is now post-ban? Further, does the fact that its post-ban just mean I can't sell it? If thats the case, I don't care. I want to own it and enjoy it. I'm not buying/building for a profit.

Just FYI, these questions are purely hypothetical (the 2nd paragraph) and geared toward how the previous ban would affect these builds since we have no way of predicting what is in store.

Ak's are very easy to build.

I'll probably start there, as bad as I want a 7.62 HK lol. Been reading around on Gunco's build boards to hopefully gain enough knowledge to decipher all of the different parts and steps out there!
