Then again, the girl who just got dropped off was just moping around too (I know, on a highway not by her choice.)

I know we don't want the police to be taxis, but it would be nice if just taken home or made to call someone...etc.

Edit: ...and to answer your question from my point of view, celebrities should not be treated differently. I feel the above for anyone.
How was he suppose to take him home if he didn't know where he was or where he was going?

Exactly. Why take some drunk home? How do you even know the cop knew who he was? He isn't exactly the face of the franchise...... Could have just been one less cracka off the streets to him.

That cop probably saved his life or at the least kept him from getting in much worse trouble.

PI is barely a slap on the wrist. He can afford it.

No kidding, the dude just won a championship. Local celebrity...if that's all he was doing, give him a break. He wasn't starting a fight, breaking into anything, driving drunk, etc.

Apparently a while back in '01, he was charged with statutory rape of a 14 yr old. This article tries to paint him as a thug, to which there's probably a little bit of truth in it.

    And found the story...

IRVING - It may be a case of a little too much celebrating. Dallas Mavericks player DeShawn Stevenson was arrested Tuesday night in Irving.

Stevenson was taken into custody at the Grand Venetian Apartments in the 6200 block of Love Drive, in Las Colinas.

According to police, residents at the complex called authorities saying an intoxicated man was walking through the complex.

John Argumaniz, a spokesman for the Irving Police Department, told CBS 11 News that once at the complex officers found Stevenson and gave him a field sobriety test — he failed.

Stevenson was taken to the Irving Jail and booked on public intoxication charges. He made bond and was released just before 6:00 a.m. Wednesday,

Police say they don't know why Stevenson was at the complex. The address he listed when booked at the jail was in Florida.

When contacted, Dallas Mavericks spokeswoman Sarah Melton said the team had no comment.

Stevenson is a 10-year NBA veteran and has been with the Mavericks for a little more than a year.
