Aside from the 2 month wait to even get the list for whole brisket.

They expanded to a location in Round Rock and they also have one in Austin Airport.

I've been to that one many times, we used to have a mustang cruise out there. It's still shit.

I have heard that the other locations (Round Rock and Austin Airport) aren't as good.

I haven't been since like 2012 so it's been a while and maybe their quality has changed, but it was phenomenal when I went. They had a $25 all-you-can-eat deal and it was worth it.

I know people are pretty averse to waiting in line for anything, let alone BBQ, but I can tell you that the 45 min wait I had at Lockhart in Dallas was well worth it once you got your food. It's not something I do on a regular basis and I treat it more of an experience than just a regular meal so I don't mind it that much. I mean, I was down there with a bunch of friends boozing it up so it didn't really matter.

The thing that sucks about any really good BBQ, self-made or prepared by others, is that it takes some solid effort to make it good and A LOT of time prepping and cooking. Then once that's all done it gets gobbled up in like 10 min and it's over. Lots of effort and time for a small bit of happiness.

I haven't been to Pecan Lodge yet, but I went to Lockhart this past summer and it was A-Mazing.

I went to Salt Lick south of Austin (Original Location) and that was other-worldly good.

Franklin's in Austin is supposed to be THE BEST, PERIOD. I haven't been, but the line for the place on a daily basis is plenty of indication of how good it is. It's definitely on the bucket list of good BBQ.

Dallas BBQ is pretty good, but you're probably going to have to venture out a bit to find the true A-List places like Franklin's, Salt Lick, Mueller's, etc.
Anytime I go through Austin (which isn't often enough) I make it a point to go through Lockhart and pick up some BBQ. I think the last time I spent about $100 and brought back some BBQ in a cooler. I think it only lasted a couple of days once friends and family found out what I had. Is there a Salt Like in Round Rock? That same trip my sister called me up and asked me to pick up some. I went to the one in Round Rock and snuck a couple of quick bites of it before packing it away in the cooler. Honestly it was not worth the stop but that's what she wanted. I just looked that place up on Google Maps and realized Louie Mueller BBQ was down the road. I don't know how I screwed that up and didn't stop there

As for ambiance, the seating area reeked of trash and we were swarmed by flies. Obviously we went there at a bad time, and BBQ can be like that sometimes. But if I'm headed to Austin for BBQ, I'll just stop in Taylor or Lockhart, thanks.
WTF where they thinking putting Salt Lick as the #1 BBQ in Texas??

I've been trying to get to Pecan Lodge, but I'm not in Dallas very much and Hutchins in McKinney is pretty damn good. Better than Lockharts in Plano.
Ya as far as the limited amount of BBQ joints I've visited, Blacks has been the best so far. Hutchins was good but better than Lockharts?? I'd like to hit up Franklins some time just to see what all the hype is about. I've watched and read about him numerous times now and I would be willing to stand in line an hour or so to try it out. Hit me up Henry when you want to go to Pecan Lodge and I'll meet you up there!

I'm probably not going to go to Franklins in any case, I'll just keep going to Blacks. As far as PL, I guess if I lived nearby I would get the togo family pack, but I like to sit down and have a meal.

Hutchins so far has been very impressive. Anytime I have brisket that can be cut with a fork, that is IMO the best smoked brisket.
