correct, how ever the constitution and the framers of our government never intended to become an empire. in order to maintain and empire you have to have the strongest military and the very best society backing it, and that takes a lot of money. if you want to go back to a government that was based on the constitution, then you better be ready to give up the empire.Originally posted by Forever_frost View PostRight, so show me, in our Constitution (which is our founding document and the only thing that matters) where the federal government can do anything with 'discretionary spending' that isn't counted in the 18 enumerated powers. I have to wonder where democrats think the money is going to keep coming from. They fought tooth and nail and had to be threatened with shutdown, in order to get them to cut spending. So where, in their little minds, is all this money that is needed, going to come from? Or do they just not believe that our money troubles even exist?

Ya... I'm not selling my silver anytime soon. See y'all in June when they announce QE3.
There might be a chance that they are counting the previous cut in the past extensions to the $38B.

Actually, it has everything to do with a constitutional mandate to fund it. If there isn't one expressly enumerated, then it cannot exist.Originally posted by Durantula View PostBecause the myth that Planned Parenthood uses federal tax dollars to fund abortion has absolutely nothing to do with a constitutional mandate to fund the program? If Republicans were trying to defund it on the premise that it's unnecessary, that argument might be relevant. But they aren't, and it's not.

Because our federal government is limited on things it can do based on the ConstitutionOriginally posted by Durantula View PostHow is that even relevant?
