That's a little broad don't you think? The later model large boxes ran on the smaller nm architecture and did not suffer from the red rings and overheating issues the older units did. The MW2 box for instance and the 250gb models are reliable.

Ive got 2 old models laying around. Bought the elite brand new rrod like a year later, shipped it in and got another one. That one rrod in just a couple of months. So i had my friend do the x-clamp fix. IT still fucks up every now and then though. But the other one a ihave is a pro and it rrod almost everday.

I bought the million dollar warranty, howevermany joules rated power strip from best buy when I bought my TV. I keep everything except the cable company box wired through it, just for that reason.Originally posted by kingjason View PostMy Elite popped within 6 months of being new. Walmart has the 4g for $199 plus you get a $50 gift card. I'm going to go that route.

I read something about this last night.Originally posted by Gtracer View PostDoesnt Microsoft also ban the unit from online service "forever" if the person who owned it was caught "cheating" in some way? Correct me if I am wrong
As someone mentioned, a 4g is cheap enough, I'll that route. I want to try out Battlefield 3.

Usually if the console is modded to run pirated games, those are the ones that get banned. When it comes to cheating on specific games, the game devs ban you from online play temporarily. But that's usually in the first year of a hot game.Originally posted by Gtracer View PostDoesnt Microsoft also ban the unit from online service "forever" if the person who owned it was caught "cheating" in some way? I would not buy used unless I knew the person I was buying it from. They are fairly inexpensive new.

I had an old one for like 3-4 years with no issues then one day it just RROD'd but they were good about fixinh it and got it back to me in 1.5 weeks. They are kind of hit and miss.
