SuddenLink rolls broadband usage caps in Texas

SuddenLink Communications is beginning to notify its high-speed Internet subscribers in Texas that it will place caps on their broadband usage.
The cable MSO first announced the controversial usage cap strategy last October, saying that it would hit subscribers with fees for exceeding caps of 150 GB for its 10 Mbps high-speed Internet service and 250 GB for customers that order faster tiers.
SuddenLink subscribers who exceed the usage caps will have to pay the MSO fees of $10 for every 50-gigabyte increment that exceeds the cap.
Other broadband providers have debated implementing usage caps. The strategy could cable MSOs boost revenue from subscribers that cut cable programming packages and rely more on online video for home entertainment. Cox Communications has begun to notify subscribers that exceed usage allowances, but the MSO hasn't yet charged fees that exceed allowances.
