Just started listening to this band "Maylene and The Sons of Disaster." It's more southern metal, but it's pretty good.

Rascall Flatts (the original gay country band) has that same appeal for some reason. The fans at their shows are 60-70% female. I think they are just today's version of the Backstreet Boys but with a slightly more southern appeal.

Eli Young band doesn't suck by any means. They are riding that fine line between country and rock and doing it mostly with songs they wrote.

Try out Lucero. They have more of a southern rock/country style similar to Drive By Truckers, but with more of a grunge type singer. I love them, but my wife hates them. Thats typically the feeling, love or hate. My fav album of theirs is called Tennessee.

I almost forgot about Nashville Pussy. They opened up for Reverend Horton Heat and Motorhead last year and they are bad ass. If you listen to them, try not to take it too serious and you will be fine. Great music to drink beer to.

Maybe cowpunk? Social Distortion, the Cramps, Hank 3, The Bottle Rockets, Rev. Horton Heat, etc... are all cowpunk/psychobilly. Hank 3 is all over the map though, a lot of his stuff is really speed metal but he also can do Texas swing songs.

If you want less punk/hillbilly then check out any of the Texas or Red Dirt country bands. Ragweed, Ryan Bingham, Stoney Larue and Randy Rogers Band are all very popular and if they were from Seattle or New York they'd never be classified as country.

Well i'm looking for music in a genre that doesn't really have a name. Rock/metal with a country twist, that's why i've been trying to give a few examples. Not real worried if it isn't exactly "southern rock", that's just as close of a genre as I could come up with to help people know what i'm talkin about. Already got a few good suggestions, so it seems to be working just fine.

Maybe we should call it "New Age Southern Metal" to reduce the southern rock confusion

Haha! I was thinking the exact same thing when they plastered his raccoon-eyed face on the screens. Bitchin' show though.

haha yeah I agree the radio defiitely kills it, which is why I try not to listen to the radio to much. I dont think they play 7 bridges road to often though but I could be wrong.

Never seen them in concert but would like to! I like their style

Most stoner rock fits in nicely with southern rock as well.
