Was he convicted, served time/probation, or deferred adjudication. Deferred changes things a bit...

10yrs after completing his/her sentence a felon can legally own a firearm per state laws, but federal laws say permanent ban. If the person is an otherwise law-abiding citizen and is found to be in possession after 10yrs clean, I highly doubt the feds would pick up the charge.

A felon in Texas can use a firearm in defense of his/her own home, but can not possess one under Federal law. Catch 22 of sorts.

Either way the clown showing his off is in violation of State and Federal laws.

    Felons and Firearms question

Whats the deal on this - is it an automatic ban? Is it for life or a period of time?

I'm not in a place i can research so i'm posing up a question to see if any of you who are bored can answer for me.

Heres the situation - i was let know that a client who was convicted of attempting to murder his wife is in possession of a handgun. Hes playing with it in his office, showing it to people behind closed doors and generally being a fucktard about it. Even if he had the legal right to own one i would be first in line to take it away and pistol whip him about the head for being a moron.

I'm across town and this is 2nd hand info from someone in the office.
Working...
