No i have not....just been around a lot of ARs and i am not saying Colts are bad but you are not getting a better rifle just because it costs more money. Now dont get me wrong...i have plenty of expensive toys just because i wanted them....just saying i think colt is riding on name and less quality then they used to. Like i said..in no way are they BAD...but for most of the civilian use that almost everyone here will be using them for people should buy a nice rifle for 500 to 700 less and buy ammo to practice with. Then they will be a better shooter.

If you don't want to build, you can always buy used and save money too. I've seen some nice rifles for not much over build costs. Used AR's are all over the market.

I have the cheap pro mag vice block and a dpms multi tool.

    Cheap and solid.

We have a lot of gracious members here willing to help you every step of the way. I pieced mine together and spent just over $500. I haven't gotten mine put together yet, I'm unfortunately outside of the metro-plex and don't make it over often enough. I'm trying to convince myself to just buy the tools and do it myself

Just build one guy its simple I just got done building mine. I build mine using a rra varmint upper and a spikes lower, with a rra two stage trigger dressed in magpul gear. I spent 1600 with optics but I ended up building what I wanted.

Perfect example. Soap loves his DPMS. I've personally seen a DPMS rifle built wrong, gas block was misaligned and the rifle simply didn't function. That doesn't mean DPMS sucks, it just means one of their rifles was messed up. And I don't know of any consensus that Colt is dropping in quality.

Daniel Defense uppers are very high quality and stack up well against the Colt. The cold hammer forged barrel is nice and they have lifetime warranty.

    $618 shipped from Bud's.

Also they have the Bushmaster Flat top (with cheap red dot) for $699 shipped.

I like mine, everything you pay for a name/manufacturer. All of mine go bang in the same fashion except if I ever part with the colts they will bring more $$

Colt has split into two entities. Colt Defense and Colt's Manufacturing Company.

Colt Defense makes products for the Military and Law Enforcement, while Colt's MFG makes stuff for us regular folks. IMO, the guns coming from Colt right now are some of the best they have ever made (most people on the Colt forms agree). Their like of 1911s are stellar and innovative, and the modern single action army guns are excellent revolvers. Their rifles are also still the best off the shelf DI ar15 variant for under $1500 IMO. Also they have this rig that can shoot 308 and 223 with the same lower-

    Pretty cool IMO.

Build one man. It's super easy. I just built my first and might have 700 in it with optics and case.

Get a stripped lower and buy a complete kit from del-ton. Takes an hour taking your sweet time to build. Now that I've done one I could probably do it in 15 min

Build yourself (and it's easy as hell, and worth the knowledge) a nice gun for around $600 and then get yourself some nice optics for it and a case with the saved money. Just because a bunch of guys wasted their cash on shit they don't need doesn't mean you should.
meh, i like colt stuff and got good deals on my rifles. The resale value alone on the colt stuff makes it worth while. I have others as well but probably continue to get colt. They're all fairly similar but I keep resale in mind

And I don't want to knock Colt, I own more colts than most people I'm sure. But if you're buying weapons for a purpose, and not necessarily collecting them, then they are not the best choice.
