I'm pretty new to the whole scoped rifle scene and am confused as to why you guys say the cheaper scopes aren't accurate? Is it because the screws back off or the mount loose? Hard to keep centered? I mean I learned on iron sights and can reach pretty far out, not trying to brag just trying to figure out what would make a scope inaccurate.

Its a hella deal! I have been shopping around at many stores the past week, and cannot find a scope even close to it for the price... Marked down $110!!Originally posted by udrandman View Postanybody have experience with that Cabela's? Looking to put it on my AR for fun (not for long) then ultimately mount on a 22. Worth it? or too good of a deal?

I've got a bushnell banner you can borrow... I think its a 3-9x 40mm... Its not top of the line but it should work for what you need... Its just sitting in the safe and I'm not going hunting anytime soon... pm me if youre interested...

Dude,
get a cheap bushnell and call it a day. I've got a $50 scope on a $250 .270 that has killed any deer I've aimed it at. I took one at over 400 yards with this shitty scope, but most my hunting now is under 200 yds. The main thing about a cheap scope is the lack of light a dusk/dawn. A really expensive scope will enable you to stay on the stand a extra 10 minutes over the cheap one.
I'd like to add, I haven't made but one click in adjustment on this scope in 8 seasons.

That's not terrible reasoning, dude. Do it if you can.Originally posted by Redbeard90gt View PostYea i did consider sitting out the rest of the season but i just hate to do that. money is tight cause of being laid off a couple weeks ago but id still love to take advantage of the investment in the lease and get some meat in the freezer!

If you can't afford a $150 scope, you can't afford to deer hunt, and need to skip the rest of the season to stack pennies for next season.
EDIT: I don't know your situation, and I don't mean to be a dick about it. I'm just urging you to hunt responsibly, and take equipment that won't leave you wounding an animal unnecessarily, when you could've killed it clean.

I've had my share of cheap scopes. Simmons, Barska, bottom of the barrel Bushnells...
But they have all been on target/range toys.
I made the investment for good glass on my hunting rig. Leupold VX-1 4-12x40. I don't want to take the chance of wounding an animal and not being able to recover it due to faulty/shoddy equipment.
Once I spent the money on the Leupold and saw the difference, I then replaced my cheap scopes with better quality. Went with Vortex Viper scopes and love them! Same warranty as Leupold and just as good optically.
Look at the Vortex Crossfire scopes for a budget option of decent glass.

I've got a bsa platinum series on my armalite AR10T, I know it's a shit scope, but after dropping the coin on the rifle I didn't have the funds for good glass. It's decent for what it is, I can shoot consistantly out to 500 yards (longest yardage I've been able shoot locally). I only have about $40 worth of trade value in it but I think it retailed for @ 150-180. I'd assume deer hunting you only need something up to 9 or 12 power. I'd think you could find something fair in that price range.
