If a plinker is what you're after out of the two, 74 is the way to go. Low recoil and cheap ammo.

As stated, if you're wanting a "bug out rifle" then AR is the way to go in this country.

But, as you said you're wanting a 47 or a 74. In that case I would go with a 47 as it's much more common here and there would be more ammo for it due to other 47 and sks owners. While the VZ58 is an awesome rifle it has pretty much no parts in common with the AK and thus would be useless should it ever break. So long as you don't get a yugo or amd65, pretty much all AKM parts are interchangeable.

As for a range gun, my 74 is one of my favorite rifles. It has barely any recoil and shoots like a laser.

Ammo is less of a argument for the 74 these days unless you have a bunch of surplus already. If you do have access to the cheap surplus it is corrosive so you do get tiny bit more cleaning to do.

I like my 74 because it shoots / recoils more like an AR but style has the function / feel of the 47.

I shoot my Wasr (AK47) a bunch too, but I had to get a larger pistol grip to make it more comfortable.

I agree. The one I sold had a canted sight that required pushing the post near the end of its adjustment during bore sighting.

If he can afford $150-200 more there are the yugo (zastava) rifles in a few different types.

I can loan you both a 74 and 47 and you can see which one you like better.

it's a crap shoot how your front sight is going to be aligned. All reliability and quality go right out the fucking window when century is the builder. All of that is irrelevant.

If you want a bug out rifle, build a good AR. AKs are fucking heavy.

Ditto. 100%. I just heard the round is corrosive or some crap. Or maybe it was super dirty. Any rate, either would do. And I love CZ so a 58 would work too. Minus the proprietary mags.

I got a Century Arms WASR 10 from Alex a few years back. It was calibrated in .223 and was the best shooting AK-based rifle I've ever used. It's a great bang for your buck rifle. Wish I still had that one.

    I've just got ARs nowadays.

    ak47 vs ak74

Looking at either one of these. What I know is 5.45 is a bit cheaper then 7.62. What is the better choice for someone who is wanting an all black ak I can slap a red dot on and be done. Bug out rifle. If u prefer one over the other, explain why and what brand is a good quality one with a good price.
