As for the OP, I am not gonna alter my day-to-day activities because someone can't keep their dog in check. Before putting my daughter in danger though, I'd have a chat with the owner, and let him know that he is solely responsible for what his dog does on a public sidewalk. It is not my responsibilty to cross to the other side because some jackass can't train his dog.

That having been said, if I have to shoot a dog that's coming at my child, and I knew in advance that it could happen, I just put my child in danger for no good reason.
