I would think calling 911 and explain what is going on would be best and to keep driving until a uniform police car shows up to see what is going on....or if someone must pull over find a crowded spot with lots of peeps outside or soemthing.

I can write tickets off duty. Once I was driving west on I20 when I was flooded by the police helicopter's spotlight. I wondered why he was lighting me up until I noticed the crotch rocket behind me. When the bike passed me, the light followed the bike.

I got on the radio (I was off work, but still in uniform) and asked Air1 what the deal was. Air1 said that he had clocked the bike at 118 on I35. The bike took Hulen and stopped at the red light. I jumped out of my car and grabbed the guy while he was looking at the helicopter. I got his keys and ID and wrote the ticket for the officer in Air1.

We are officers 24 hours a day. People have a misnomer that we can't do anything "off duty", but they soon find out they are dead wrong.
How does this pertain to officers driving personal vehicles?

I had some cop chase me down one time in a red Jeep Wrangler on a farm-to-market road. He was coming the opposite way, promptly busted a u-turn after passing by, and came flying back up at me after a minute or so. After noticing what appeared to be some skunkneck road-raging behind me, I sped up some and kept driving to my buddy's house. There are a bunch of tight, winding corners on that road, so he fell behind after the first couple of them. Anyways, just after I pull in at my buddy's place and killed my Mustang, he came sliding in 'Dukes of Hazzard' style, jumps out and comes running up. He digs a badge out of a pocket, says he was a cop and starts making out like I was trying to outrun a police officer. He seemingly got really pissed when I told him I wasn't about to pull over for someone wearing a wife-beater and cut-off jeans driving a jacked-up Jeep flashing it's headlights and honking its horn in what appeared to be a fit of rage. Nothing became of it, he yelled and slobbered for a couple minutes, bitched about my loud exhaust (which is supposedly why he chased me down), and then left. He claimed he was a Hillsboro city cop, off duty.

Now, I have seen the news stories that say for women to drive to the police station, etc, if the vehicle attempting to pull them over is questionable, but really, should a cop be trying to pull you over in a personal vehicle, out of uniform? I was young and stupid, but if the gunt had been following at the proper distance, she wouldn't have had a drop touch her car.

I was kidding, I'm glad to see any board member show up, cop or not. Though too many cokes seem to make you coppers gun happy.

Or shot him, exactly my point. A traffic altercation is not worth my life.

I don't know why, but that made me laugh harder than I have in a long time.

Your story totally illustrates how a 3k pound car makes people feel invincible. Had you not been a cop, you would have pounded the dude, and left him on the side of the road.

    Or shot him.

When she ran up to an officer in the parking lot and pointed me out, he recognized me and asked me how I was doing. You should have seen her face. She recieved a few citations for her actions.
