What about court fines, cost paid to the state for breathalyzers. ETC ETC ETC. Where do you think all of this goes? Back into the city to help pay for stuff. I've never had one thank God but I know they're expensive. Traffic infractions when you fight them nickle and dime you to death.

When did they stop doing this at Sherlocks? It wasn't long ago that they would mark tires with chalk to gauge how long you'd been there, and they love to pull people over who pull out onto Southbound Collins and bust that first U-turn to go Northbound or to get to 30. The "No U-turn" sign is before the turn-out, so you wouldn't even know that you're not supposed to do one. They are crafty, indeed. Hell, there were times that they'd have 2-3 cops walking around in there, eyeballing folks. I was buds with one of the bartenders and he hated that shit.Originally posted by BP View PostThat's how Arlington shuts down the bars they don't want. For some reason they don't pull that trick at Cowboys or Sherlocks any more.

I've worked a double shift, got pulled over on my way home, and the cop wanted to hit me with DUI, simply because i looked as tired as i felt.Originally posted by Steve View PostTry not drinking and driving, then none of this shit matters.
Some cops are great, some are assholes. Hope for the great ones, but be prepared for the assholes.

Hence why you "regretfully decline all of the above" You'll go to jail either way but its harder for them to prove.Originally posted by clevelandkid View PostYou can't be pulled over just for leaving a bar - but that is a good indicator you may have been drinking, and many cops will follow you until you make a minor mistake to pull you over and find out for sure, and they may take a chance and pull you over even if you don't screw up.
At 2am, there's a very good chance someone leaving the bar has been drinking. Even if you were driving perfect and got pulled over, you would have a hard time proving in court that you used your blinker, or didn't drift slightly over a line on the street for a moment, and there was no reason to stop you... especially if you fall on your face on camera during the alcoholic olympics, or blow a really good GPA on the breathalyzer.

Since you are so certain about this, how much revenue does it generate? Where does that revenue go?Originally posted by onemeangixxer7502 View PostHe's right though, its more of a revenue generating tactic. If it wasn't the punishment would be harsh. Like in Norway, fines are based on your income and you get to visit norweigan bighouse for awhile.

Don't they need probable cause for making a traffic stop... like not using a blinker, wide turn, etc? I don't drink or go to bars, just wondering. Seems like this would make for bad business for a local bar owner.

Obviously you have never had a drunk driver impact your life.

Not at all. I know all you drinkers on the board think I'm some anti-party type and nothing could be further from the truth. I get why people like to casually social drink, I don't have a problem with it at all as long as it's done responsibly and with moderation. Some people need to have a drink a to relax or help wind down. Nothing wrong with it.Originally posted by Broncojohnny View PostYet just about every person I know that drinks has done so to excess a time or two, including myself. That isn't any more of an indicator that someone is "not normal" than any other detail about their life unless you are striving to make judgements.
I think that someone of you think I'm anti-drinking because I don't do it much myself. It's not true at all. If we were all at a BBQ together or something like that, I'd have a beer with you guys. I'd just make sure that I had it well in advance of me having to drive anywhere and that I would have some food in my stomach. I personally don't care for the bar scene much, never have. I also don't like that drunk or buzzed feeling at all either, I don't get the appeal to it. Doesnt mean I am judging when I say that, just taking part in the conversation.

That's not normal, thats drinking to excess.

Somewhat creative, not real original but at least it has style. I give it a 7.Originally posted by ELVIS View Postwould this be a good place to make some joke containing the words arm and bar?

would this be a good place to make some joke containing the words arm and bar?Originally posted by Steve View PostI don't have a hang up about drinking at all. If you want to get hammered, fine, go for it - just stay home and do it.
What I do have issue with is people that go out into public and get hammered to the point they can barely function. Or the same people who get a false confidence since they made it home the time before after a few drinks, they must be "ok" and can drive just fine after a few drinks. That's what alchohol does, it fucks up your judgement.
And this thought process of getting cut off at a bar is perfectly normal is crazy thinking. That's not normal, thats drinking to excess.
Personally, I don't see why someone would want to get so hammered they don't have control of themselves, but to each to their own.
