Actually, I've lost what was my best friend at the time, in 3 different DUI wrecks. I also have had a few acquaintances kill others or be killed in them as well. I have actually been hit by a drunk driver too.

I'm all for getting drunks off the road - I just don't think the "wait outside the bar" method works very well at actually reducing drinking and driving overall. I can't tell you how many people I know that have 3+ DUIs - and I used to get absolutely shit housed and drive home from the bar 4-5 nights a week - probably at least 1,000 times and never got a DUI, and I'd go to bars where I knew they did this.

I won't drink and drive at all now, so the tactic doesn't really affect me - I just think there needs to be drastic change to really make a difference. I wish somebody would have been there to arrest my friends before they died, but to be honest, 2 of the 3 had DUIs before, and it didn't stop them from doing it again.

It happens every night at a lot of bars. You have a problem when you do it every night or otherwise "often." If you're blowing off some steam once a month or every couple of weeks with a bunch of friends....seems normal to me.

I concur with the driving thing, it's important to have that taken care of for sure.

I don't have a hang up about drinking at all. If you want to get hammered, fine, go for it - just stay home and do it.

What I do have issue with is people that go out into public and get hammered to the point they can barely function. Or the same people who get a false confidence since they made it home the time before after a few drinks, they must be "ok" and can drive just fine after a few drinks. That's what alchohol does, it fucks up your judgement.

And this thought process of getting cut off at a bar is perfectly normal is crazy thinking. That's not normal, thats drinking to excess.

Personally, I don't see why someone would want to get so hammered they don't have control of themselves, but to each to their own.

Either way, if I did drive home and got caught...etc - I don't see how it is the bar's fault.

Edit to your edit - probably should just have a 1-2 drink limit.

    I was wondering about this

not really a problem for me , I just stay home and drink. screw spending all your money at a bar.

I personally don't have a problem with it. It's kind of shady I guess, especially if they're just pulling them over for no reason.

but the choice is yours , go get drunk and hang til 2am or do something more productive.
I'd rather see cops harassing someone who is probably doing something illegal. That's their fucking job.

I can't emphasize enough the effectiveness of the traffic stop.

Since the police can't just walk into homes, people put themselves available by travelling on a public roadway. When they can't or won't follow the rules, it makes for easy PC.

Last week I stopped a 20 year old for doing 62 in a 40 down Bryant Irvin south of I20.

I ran him and he had 27 FWPD warrants and 5 Mansfield warrants. He had the nerve to ask for a warning. I would think that the 32 warrants were warning enough. He also was a habitual violator and his license was suspended.

He took a ride to the gray bar motel.

If he had been doing anywhere near the speed limit, he would have never gotten caught.

Shame on those bars for forcing people to consume their product, and not permitting them to leave before they've reached their reasonable limit! SHAME!

Your first mistake was closing the bar down. I would never be on the road at that time if I have had a drink.

and that place is a shit hole.
