Are DLP's the kind that needs a new bulb after x amount of time? If so, pricing a replacement for a 82" might be a good idea.

The bulbs do go out. But the life is dependent on how gently used they are. They are sensitive to heat and need to cool down. Basically if the TV loses power or is turned on and off a lot, it can be hard on the bulb. I have had my TV for four years and the original bulb is still doing fine. They are about $200 and can be installed pretty easily.
